Bank of England cuts key interest rate

February 08, 2008
Britain's central bank cuts interest rates a quarter of a percentage point to 5.25% to boost slumping economy.

The Bank of England today cut rates for the second time in three months, lowering the benchmark rate by a quarter point to 5.25 percent.

The European Central Bank kept interest rates at a six-year high as policy makers focused on curbing inflation rather than supporting a weakening economy.
