Govt says no plans to ban iron ore exports for now

The government has no plans to ban exports of iron ore, Junior Trade Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia told parliament on Monday.

"There is no proposal under consideration at present to ban exports of iron ore," he said in a written reply.

India, the world's third largest exporter, shipped 105.9 million tonnes in 2008/09 compared to 104.3 million tonnes in the previous year.
