PEC to sell 1,390 tonnes of imported pulses

State-run PEC has invited bids for sale of 1,390 tonnes of imported tur and chana in order to meet the festive demand.

Bids will close on September 30 and the decision on the tender will be taken by October 7, the company said on its website.

PEC said it would sell 570 tonnes of tur and 820 tonnes of chana (chickpeas) grown during the 2008 and 2009 crop year.

The pulses are stored in godowns at Mumbai, Vizaq and Kolkata.

According to the tender notice, bidders should quote the quantity specified as per the location. The bid quantity would vary from minimum 100 tonnes to maximum 300 tonnes depending on the variety of pulses.

PEC, which imports on behalf of the government to meet the country's shortages, had contracted 308,140 tonnes of pulses from the global market as on April 1.
