Alphabet Inc. Cl A stock underperforms when compared to competitors despite strong trading day

Shares of Alphabet Inc. Cl A GOOGL advanced 2.05% to $1,576.25 Thursday, on what proved to be an all-around positive trading session for the stock market, with the S&P 500 Index SPX rising 0.32% to 3,385.51 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA rising 0.17% to 27,739.73. Alphabet Inc. Cl A closed $10.80 below its 52-week high ($1,587.05), which the company achieved on July 21st.

The stock underperformed when compared to some of its competitors Thursday, as Apple Inc. AAPL rose 2.22% to $473.10, Microsoft Corp. MSFT rose 2.33% to $214.58, and Facebook Inc. Cl A FB rose 2.44% to $269.01. Trading volume (1.3 M) remained 469,205 below its 50-day average volume of 1.8 M.
