Sugar exporters need Govt approval before shipment

The Government has made compulsory for sugar exporters to secure a Government permit before shipping to cool the domestic prices amid a record drop in production.

Shipments under open general license and advance authorization plans can only be made after obtaining release orders from the Government, the trade ministry stated on its Web site.

The Government in February allowed duty-free imports of raw sugar until September for processing and sale domestically, and last month extended the tax break to white sugar.
