Sensex ends marginally higher

The stock indices ended marginally higher on Wednesday after rising 2 per cent. The indices pared gains later on profit taking by investors and traders.

The BSE index closed firm at 9,201.85 points, up by 52.55 points or 0.57 per cent.

The S&P CNX Nifty too was up 19.15 points at 2,803.05 points.

Major gainers today were Tata Steel, Zee Entertainment, DLF, Sterlite, SAIL, HCL Technologies, Maruti and ACC. Tata Steel shares were up over 5 per cent at Rs 179.55, zee Entertainment gained 5 per cent at Rs 101.70 and DLF rose 4.97 per cent at Rs 139.4 5.

The domestic market gained early tracking global markets which were up on hopes of an U.S. stimulus package.
